Summer Building Contest

I wish to announce the first of what I hope will be a series of Building Contests. The entries will posted on my model pages and all members of the LEGO Internet community will be asked to act as judges. At a later date an FTP site will announced for those who do not have graphical WWW access.

The theme of the first contest will be "Wheeled Vehicles".

Here are the rules, they are open for discussion and refinement.

Summer LEGO Building Contest.

Theme: Wheeled Vehicles.

Any type of vehicle is eligible. A Technic racecar, a Model Team Truck, a Space planet rover, a Castle siege cart, a Town firetruck, or any thing else you can dream up. The only requirement is that it must be a vehicle with wheels. (yes, landing gear will count, and wheels on rails are just fine.)

Eligibility:

Everyone is eligible to enter except me. (darn!)

Entry Requirements:

There will be two classes of entries, they will compete on an equal basis.

Class one entries will be actual models constructed exclusively with original LEGO parts. Either an original photograph of the model or a file containing a scanned image of the model should be submitted. The models should be truly original and not just minor modifications of existing LEGO designs.

Class two entries will be computer generated models, either from ray tracing software, the Postscript routines, a CAD package or your own custom software. In this case a file containing the final image of the model should be submitted. The models should be truly original and not just minor modifications of existing LEGO designs. The models must also be buildable with existing LEGO parts. This means that the model can not depict new parts that have never been manufactured my LEGO. This rule is necessary since all entries (real and computer generated) will compete on an equal basis.

Entry Submissions:

You may submit as many entries as you wish, although I will post only three entries from any one person on the WWW Contest page. Entries should be submitted as original photographs that I will scan and post, as uuencoded jpeg or gif files to my email address, or via mail on PC readable floppy disk. You may also wish to post your entry somewhere else where I can down load it to my computer. In this case email me the computer address.

The deadline for all entries will be September 22, the end of summer. Please include a short text describing your model. If possible you might want to include additional images that reveal how the model was built.

Entry Display:

All entries will be displayed on a special WWW page during the time of the contest. The exact format will depend upon the number of entries. An FTP site will also be available for those who do not have WWW access.

Judging:

The winner will be based upon the comments and suggestions received from the LEGO Internet community. The goal will be to find a consensus winner, one that at least a majority of those who send me comments consider to be a truly outstanding model. I will solicit comments and suggestions from everyone. The winner will be announced by the end to September

Prizes:

The best model in each category (Technic, Model Team, Town, Space, Castle, Pirates, Aquazone, Train, etc) will be first selected. A token prize of a small LEGO set will be awarded to each Best of Category winner. Then a Grand Champion will be selected from the Best of Category winners. The Grand Champion will receive eternal glory, have his or her model permanently displayed on the WWW contest page, and a LEGO Technic Set of my choosing as the grand prize.
